A platform that replaces traditional classroom attendance trackers, providing lecturers with a tool to track attendance and gauge student comprehension through real-time questioning.

Problem

Both lecturers and students faced challenges with existing classroom engagement tools. Lecturers needed a seamless way to track attendance and assess comprehension, while students required a low-effort, accessible platform to participate in lectures.

Solution

Simplify user flows by using insights gathered from lecturer feedback and user testing. Prioritize features requested by users, such as class roster management, real-time question posting, geographic proximity, and centralized analytics. These interventions aimed to reduce friction for lecturers to achieve quick and effortless student tracking experiences.

Site map

Problem
The first iteration of the sitemap allows users to access features like "Class Roster" and "Track Attendance" without selecting a course, even though these features depend on a specific course. This causes confusion, redundant actions (e.g., backtracking to select a course), and inefficient navigation.
Solution
Restructure the hierarchy so course selection is the starting point. Features are nested under the selected course to reduce error. Additionally, to eliminate redundant user flows, features are directly accessible from the main Lecturer Dashboard rather than through a navigation bar.

Low-Fidelity Prototype

I consolidated all features into the dashboard, minimizing navigation bars. This aligned with the stakeholder's preference for a dashboard-centric design and made it easier to present key information in one place without distractions. Card sorting revealed challenges in compartmentalizing the limited features, reinforcing this approach.
Prototype Test Result
During testing, participants struggled to find the option to add or switch classes, a key feature initially placed in the hamburger menu.
Solution
Given the importance of class selection, we used information hierarchy principles to improve visibility. We moved the dropdown to the top-left, ensuring it’s the first element users see.
